JAMSTEC Washington
Office
JAMSTEC Washington Office was established on
October 1, 2000 in the nation's capital,
Washington, D.C. The Washington Office undertakes
liaison and coordination duties primarily for key
items provided in the Common Agenda at the
U.S.-Japan summit, such as global climate change
research and deep-sea drilling program. It also
functions as a liaison for the JAMSTEC's
internationally cooperative scientific projects to
U.S. organizations distributed on the East Coast of
North America
The Washington Office directly and regularly
corresponds with National Science Foundation (NSF),
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
(NOAA), Navy, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institutions
(WHOI), Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO),
and other related organizations of the U.S., in
order to coordinate and promote deep-sea drilling
program, as well as various oceanographic
researches. IODP (Integrated Ocean Drilling
Program) is the most priority for this office,
therefore, it has the closest relation with OD21
Program Department at JAMSTEC Yokosuka
Headquarter.
